Twas' right before daybreak, and all through the house, not a creature was stirring except two naughty little mice.
"Do you think she'll fall for it?" Kaitlyn asked.
"Oh yeah, definitely. She's so naïve," replied McKenna.
"I don't know- it seems kinda mean."
"Don't worry. She'll be fine."
I woke up, like I did before I came to "the house." That's what I had called it for so many years in the orphanage.
I walked over to Kaitlyn and McKenna.
"Good morning," I said with a yawn.
"Hey, Carrie. Can I show you something outside? It's really cool," McKenna told me.
I stared down at my bare feet. "Ok," I said hesitantly, wanting to make a good impression.
McKenna dragged me down the stairs and out the door.
"Over there," McKenna pointed. I shivered. Even though it was warmer here than in NY, where the orphanage was, it was still pretty cold.
I looked over. Before I knew it, I heard footsteps and a lock.
I tried in vain to open the door. It was useless.
I sighed. It was getting colder. The only thing comforting me was the sunrise.
I felt the tears streaming down my face. It wasn't because of the prank, but the hearts behind it. (Also notice the "cheerios" quote unquote, from earlier this month) Did the people here hate me?
~End of Part 1~
Hehe, did you really think I would leave you hanging?
~Part 2~
It seemed like hours when some boys ran out the door. I hid. Then it dawned on me: they had unlocked the door! I ran back inside, shivering.
On the way to Josie's bed, I saw Saige. She was always interesting. One week she was sporty, this week she was a lady.
"Hey Carrie, how- why, you're freezing!" she said.
She immediately threw me on the bed.
She hugged me tight, and asked me to explained what happened. I told her everything.
"I used to live in the orphanage," I told her. "The American Girl Orphanage. My parents died in a fire when I was three, leaving me and my sister behind. She was only 12 months at the time. We were separated, and I don't know what happened to her."
Saige only hugged me again. McKenna and Kaitlyn got in big trouble-they were grounded, in fact. A couple days later, Kaitlyn apologized, explain McKenna had lured her. I didn't know if she would be my friend. But I did know that one person was there for me: Saige.
I enjoyed reading your photostory Josie!
